The abduction of Maduro, the war with Iran and the volatile relationships with both Russia and Ukraine: Trump’s foreign policy may seem erratic, but according to political economist Helen Thompson (University of Cambridge), there is a logic behind it. How is the rivalry between the United States and China over energy and critical resources shaping world politics? And can Europe solve its enduring energy crisis? We will talk with Helen about what you see when you look at the news through the lens of the hunger for oil and other fossil fuels. Afterwards physicist Gert Jan Kramer (UU) will join the conversation and we'll explore how the transition towards green energy might change the distribution of power on the world stage.
