Are you between 18 and 30 years old and looking to meet new people, connect with the city while also ?
Join Buddies Without Borders, a new volunteer project by Serve the City Utrecht that connects Dutch and international young people through volunteering.
What is Buddies Without Borders?
Buddies Without Borders brings together international and Dutch young people (18–30 years old) in Utrecht by matching them into buddy pairs and participating in volunteer activities together.
The project is specifically designed for international newcomers to the city, such as expats and international students, who may face barriers to volunteering due to language differences. By volunteering together with a Dutch-speaking buddy, we make volunteering more accessible, inclusive, and fun.

What does the project look like?
- Mid-September: Kick-off event where participants meet each other and learn more about the project.
- After the kick-off: Participants are matched into buddy pairs (one Dutch participant and one international participant).
- September – December: Buddy pairs take part in a variety of volunteer activities together, both in pairs and in group settings.
Who are we looking for?
Both Dutch and international young people (18–30 years old) who:
- Enjoy meeting new people
- Want to contribute to the city
- Are open to intercultural exchange and collaboration
- Are available between September and December
No previous volunteer experience is required!

Serve the City Utrecht (STCU) is dé vrijwilligersorganisatie voor jonge Utrechters (16-30 jaar). Samen maken we Utrecht een stukje mooier. Dit doen we door jongeren te koppelen aan stadgenoten met een laagdrempelige hulpvraag die zelf onvoldoende netwerk of middelen hebben om deze op te lossen. Zo kun je boodschappen doen voor een oudere buurtgenoot met weinig contacten, taalmaatje worden voor iemand die Nederlands aan het leren is, of iemand helpen klussen. En dat is nog maar een greep uit de dingen die we doen. Dus ben je sociaal, praktisch, of allebei: er zit zeker wat voor jou bij.
